Congrats Ben Dum!

Baseball: West Perry grad Ben Dum signs contract with Minnesota Twins, will join advanced rookie affiliateFormer West Perry ace Ben Dum is joining the Minnesota Twins organization.
Turns out, the wait wasn’t too long.Ben Dum is heading to the Minnesota Twins organization after spending almost a month in independent league baseball. He’ll join the Twins’ advanced rookie league team in Elizabethton, Tennessee, on Friday. It wasn’t exactly the route Dum — a dominant ace for West Perry who set single-season (ERA: 0.29) and career records (strikeouts: 335, shutouts: 10) with the Mustangs before earning All-Sentinel Co-Player of the Year in 2015 — envision for himself, but he can now finally say he’s in the minor leagues. 2015 ALL-SENTINEL BASEBALL CO-MVP: BEN DUM“I was expecting a call during the draft or at least a free agent signing after the draft, but that didn’t come,” said Dum, who pitched as a starter and reliever for VCU the past four years. But that proved a “chip on my shoulder,” he said. He spent the past month with the Southern Illinois Miners pitching well, using the draft slight as motivation. He was his typically electric self, and he’ll cap his short career there with 10 straight appearances without a run allowed. In total, he pitched in 19 games, going 1-0 with two saves, a 2.75 ERA, and a .183 opponent batting average.“That didn’t go unnoticed,” Dum said late Thursday night from the Miners’ stadium.Ben Dum III@bdum18
Grateful for the opportunity to join the Minnesota Twins Organization! Can’t thank the siminers enough for the opportunity to start my pro career this summer. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. Go @twins ! @…
Dum said he found out in the afternoon when he arrived to the field to start preparing for the day’s game. But his manager pulled him into the office and told him the Twins had signed him. Dum said he had no idea the news was coming, it happened quickly.Dum said in 2015 he generated a little late-round interest out of high school but ultimately went undrafted. This past year with VCU he met with an area scout in Richmond, Virginia. Then VCU’s baseball operations director, Jared Gaynor, was hired by Cedar Rapids as a pitching coach, Dum said. Gaynor got in touch with the Twins’ independent league scout in the area, who saw Dum pitch. And now he’s an Elizabethton Twin, joining a team that’s won two straight Appalachian League championships. They are second in the West Division through 41 games.“I’m gonna keep doing the same thing I’ve been doing that I’ve been doing in Southern Illinois,” he said.Dum did not know many of the details of his signing. He’s expected in Tennessee on Friday for the start of a three-game home series, he said. Thursday night he planned to finish packing at the stadium and at his host family’s house. Then it’s a seven-hour drive starting bright and early Friday morning. He’ll be playing country music on Spotify. Unfortunately, Nashville is four-and-a-half hours away from his new home.

If you can buy a few extras boxes, when doing your back to school shopping, that would really help! Thank you!
